Inle Lake is located in Nyaung Shwe Township of Shan State at an altitude of 880 meters above sea level and has surface area of 116 square meters. Inle Lake, the second largest lake in Myanmar, is well known for its amazing scenery, floating islands and lake dwellers, called Intha, who practice unique upright one leg-rowing style. Inle Lake is home to the five small Buddha images of the Hpaung Daw Oo Pagoda, which are all covered with gold leaf so thick that their original forms can no longer be seen. The traditional boat racing, with dozens of leg-rowers in a team on each boat, during ceremonial Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda festival is a very famous event.
